Mohican
School in the Out-of-Doors, Inc., is a private non-profit organization
that provides resident and one day field trip experiences in outdoor/environmental
education for school-age students. Since its beginning in 1961 Mohican
School has served over 200,000 students in its programs from over 80 public
and private school districts in 24 counties in Ohio.
For nearly 40 years, the
school rented various camps to operate its program from September through
May. In October 1999, the Mohican School Environmental Learning Center
was opened. Owned and operated by the school, this beautiful facility has
allowed flexibility in scheduling a wide variety of events throughout the
year, including our summer camping program. Mohican School admits students
of any race, color, sex, religion, national or ethnic origin.
| MISSION STATEMENT
Mohican School in the Out-of-Doors, Inc., champions environmental stewardship and is committed to providing a unique understanding of the interrelatedness of the natural environment emphasizing outdoor cooperative learning in a community-centered setting. |
Our summer camping sessions
are natural extensions of our mission statement in a more relaxed atmosphere.
While group responsibilities are an important part of the camp community,
small camper/staff ratios allow activities to be tailored to more individual
development. A day less-structured around class periods means, for
example, the fish caught can be cleaned, cooked over an open fire, and
then enjoyed for dinner! With summer weather we add swimming, tubing, and
camp-outs to our outdoor adventures.
